"What Does Mrs. Illinois Do??"

"What does Mrs. Illinois do exactly?" I get that question a lot!!
I will do my very best to answer that...

Illinois has a very strong history of remarkable women who have been blessed with the title of Mrs. Illinois International.  We are wives. We are doctors. We are teachers. We are women of God. We are mothers. We are philanthropists. We are nurses. We are community leaders. We are advocates. We are ambassadors. We are multi-taskers who love a challenge.  We are women who are not afraid of hard work. We are role models and we are a voice. We are women with a vision.

We are women who want to change the world and pageantry is our chosen way to do this.

Over the years we have represented organizations like CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Feed My Starving Children, Autism Speaks, Boys and Girls Club, Make a Wish, PACER's and Go Red for Women to name a few. We have represented survivors of cancer, mental illness, suicide, depression, heart disease, diabetes, auto-immune diseases, physical abuse, mental abuse and bullying.

We are driven by loss of a loved one, or for those who can't speak, and those who have a story to tell.
We take our year of service very seriously and aim to make a difference where ever that may be.

Since being crowned in March, I strive to be supportive of all events that come my way. I feel as a title holder it is so very important to be supportive of all causes, charities and events that make the community, the state and the world a better place. Kindness is all around us and comes in so many forms.
This year I have added to the legacy raising awareness that bullying is non-discriminatory. Bullying may not seem like a life-threatening cause, but it kills in a very different way. This is an issue that has touched every single one of us directly or indirectly. I also strive to inspire kindness as a way of life. To act with kind intentions and always keep the idea of kindness and inclusion in the back of our heads with every decision we make.

So as you can see there is no clear cut "job description" of what Mrs. Illinois does.

Every queen defines her crown differently.

One thing is for sure, we act with God in our hearts- we go where He leads us. We all have one thing in common and that’s we sincerely want to make the world a better place. We hope to inspire you to do the same.

Until next time...

"Be Kind. Make a Difference."

Acknowledge the Storm, but Celebrate the Rainbow

"It is understood that the beauty of a rainbow does not negate the ravages of the storm; when a rainbow appears, it does not mean that the storm did not happen or that we are not still dealing with its aftermath. It means that something beautiful and full of light has appeared in the midst of the darkness and clouds. Storm clouds may still hover, but the rainbow provides counterbalance or color, energy and hope." *** We didn't know a head ultrasound was on her agenda for the day. But we were used to all the hospital visitors from all different parts of the hospital coming and going, taking the samples they needed from her, not to be seen again. So it wasn't alarming to us they were going to come in for a head ultrasound (U/S). Poor thing was only 7 days old- but it was just one more thing to check off our list. The whole scan lasted about 15 mins in total and that was it. She barely even woke up for it. Easy and done.   It was early morning an

My son is turning one this month! That sentence has yet to completely sink in. I have been watching him walk around our living room these past two weeks, but not like I usually do - not necessarily on alert to shoo him away from the occasional uncovered outlet, or kick him out the utility room to stop him from eating his occasional snack of cat food- but just watching him. Taking it all in. He has his own very busy agenda these days- and it's absolutely amazing to me. There is no way he will ever know the joy he brings to my life, or the powerful love I have for him- that is until he has his own child himself. He'll never know the happiness I feel when he stumbles up to me with his arms open to give me a hug, or when he aggressively gives me one of his open mouth kisses on my cheek. I could literally sit and watch him learn and play all day long. It's so beautiful to me. And please tell me I am not the only one that will sit in the car and let my child finish his nap?? OK.
