Kindness Crew ready to Feed My Starving Children!

"Feed My Starving Children® is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and we ship these meals to our distribution partners. FMSC meals have reached nearly 70 countries around the world in our history."

I was absolutely blown away by this organization. From the friendly, passionate volunteers who run the daily activities to the way it's organized to ensure things go smoothly. One of the things I absolutely loved was the fact that you are able to see how many meals you actually helped create at the end of your session.

"Boxes Packaged: 101  Meals: 21,815  Kids Fed For A Year: 60!"

Before the food preparation session begins, they have a brief orientation. You find out where your meals are heading and how to bag the meals properly. On the night I volunteered there was a full house! Positive energy filled the room. It was great!! Each person is able to pick a station in a sort of assembly line process. I held the bags while my two sister queens filled them with food. You then weigh the food bag to make sure there is just the right amount.  You then pass it on to be sealed. The food is then boxed and the process is repeated over and over. I believe our group alone, was responsible for 15 boxes! I can't tell you how fast that hour went by. It was so fun and so easy. When you stop and take a minute to think about what you're actually accomplishing- and how easy it was, it's really moving. Something so easy has such an impact in the lives of others.

I  was so moved by this organization that I actually chose it for my next Kindness Crew event. I couldn't wait to share this experience with my friends and family, so I reserved 12 spots in April and hoped people would be just as excited as I was to help! I am constantly blown away by the generosity and willingness to make a difference that my friends and family show on a regular basis. I had 10 spots instantly fill up! I know some of you may be saying  "I thought Be Kind. Make a Difference is a bully prevention organization. What does this have to do with feeding children?"  Yes. Bully prevention is the main cause we are dedicated to. That being said-  I truly believe that by creating a kind, giving atmosphere you create unity. When you create unity you are able to block the negativity that comes along with bullying. I believe that if we are going to make a difference and change the culture of bullying we need to start within our community. Hence why Be Kind. Make a Difference has a community out reach program.
Getting the community involved is no different than going to a classroom to speak about kindness and acceptance. It's no different than asking people to be proactive in a movement. My idea with the Kindness Crew is to  lead by example and show there are people who are kind, who care, and who do want to make a difference.- proactively.  We are people that believe a small, simple act of kindness can have a huge impact. I believe that those small simple acts of kindness will encourage even more people in the community and have a ripple effect.  After all, kindness is contagious! I want to show that BKMD is not only about bully prevention. We are not only about raising awareness. We are not only about education. We are also about being proactive. We are about  having a presence and physically making a difference in our community. We are taking a multidimensional approach...and that is why we are unique.

I hope you will join us in our movement!

Until next time,

"Be Kind. Make a Difference!"

My son is turning one this month! That sentence has yet to completely sink in. I have been watching him walk around our living room these past two weeks, but not like I usually do - not necessarily on alert to shoo him away from the occasional uncovered outlet, or kick him out the utility room to stop him from eating his occasional snack of cat food- but just watching him. Taking it all in. He has his own very busy agenda these days- and it's absolutely amazing to me. There is no way he will ever know the joy he brings to my life, or the powerful love I have for him- that is until he has his own child himself. He'll never know the happiness I feel when he stumbles up to me with his arms open to give me a hug, or when he aggressively gives me one of his open mouth kisses on my cheek. I could literally sit and watch him learn and play all day long. It's so beautiful to me. And please tell me I am not the only one that will sit in the car and let my child finish his nap?? O...

My very first blog... I'm nervous!

This is so exciting for me! I'm officially a "blogger"! I'm not sure that is even the correct term?? Please forgive me - I'm learning as I go! I am so excited to share with you, a day in the life of me! I promise to keep it fun and interesting! I have a 10 month old son, and a husband of 1 year...how can life NOT be interesting? Between the toilet locks, the obstacle course of Lego's all over the carpet, and my husbands protein powder mess, I think I can manage to come up with a few things here and there. I'm excited to share our adventures and my simple message to "Be Kind. Make a Difference"- It's simple right?
